Work and Projects
Spelling - There will be a weekly packet given on Monday. Students will have the week to complete the packet, which includes defining each word. On Friday, students will have a spelling test as well as having to match the word to the definition.
Grammar - We will be focusing on a skill each week. The warm-up will provide practice each day. There will be a skill worksheet that will be graded on Friday or the following week. There may be a practice homework sheet as well.
Writing - Students will do independent writing pieces weekly, in class or for homework. The writing will focus on the weekly grammar skill. These writing pieces will be evaluated and feedback given.
Reading - Students are asked to read 30 minutes daily. Over a 2 week period, students need to read for a total of 420 minutes. Due to after school activities, students have the option to decide how to meet this reading goal. Parents/guardians need to sign the reading log to verify that the reading happened.
Book Reports - Students will have a book report each nine weeks. The students will have a "menu" of what type of book report they can do. This book report will be a 2 week assignment. During this time, students can use this reading to meet their outside reading requirements.
Science - The first nine weeks we are focusing on measurement, science process skills and weather. The majority of the work will be done in the classroom. There will be an independent project each nine weeks. For the first nine weeks, the project will focus on weather.
